There was a moment in time when I realized I don't make pretty paintings. I wasn't sure what to think about that except that it was true. None of my paintings have ever been described as pretty. They've been described as edgey, thoughtful, psychological studies, whimsical, cute, strange, even scarry. Not a pretty to be found in there any where.

So the other day, I set up a still life of potted geraniums for my students to paint. I thought what the heck, why don't I paint it? I worked on it on and off for a couple of days until it got to the point you see above. I am one proud mama. I've given birth to my first pretty painting, and just in time for Valentine's.

I am thrilled and honored to say that I have been selected to participate in the sixth edition of the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. It will take place December 1-9, 2007 in the historical Fortezza da Basso. In 2001 The United Nations recognized the Florence Biennale as an official partner in the program "Dialogue Among Nations". The artists of the Biennale, despite their differences of language and faith, found a common language in art to communicate their cultural values, illustrating Kofi Annan's statement: "Art opens new doors for learning, understanding, and peace among people and nations".

Semi-Private Studio Sessions Available!
Studio sessions are available on Fridays with no more than four people at a time. No pressure or competition. A supportive, positive learning environment.
