Mary Medrano grew up in Michigan. She has a BA in Photography from Western Michigan University and a Graphic Design and Visual Communications degree from University of California, Santa Cruz.
In 2002 Mary began teaching herself to paint then gave herself her first art show later that year. Since that time she has taken workshops from many significant artists in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
In 2017 three of Mary’s paintings were included in the permanent collection of the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, California.
Mary has participated in numerous group shows and has won several awards, most recently the Benchmark Award from Art In The High Desert in 2016.
Mary was selected to exhibit at the 2007 Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. It is a premier world art event where artists from around the world are chosen by a panel of art critics and historians to exhibit and compete.
In 2006 Mary had a museum show titled “Crow Tales” at the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, California.
Her solo shows include the Rotunda Gallery in Bend, Oregon, at Franklin Crossing in Bend, Oregon, at the Betty Gray Gallery in Sunriver, Oregon, at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis, California, at Gallery Blu in Santa Clara, California, twice at Ameriprise Financial in San José, California, and at Bank of America in Sunnyvale, California.
She has been selected to show at two of the top ten art festivals in the country: Art In The High Desert in Bend, Oregon and Art In The Pearl in Portland, Oregon.
Mary lives with her husband, Sam in Bend, Oregon. When not painting she enjoys reading, sewing, hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and spending time with her dog, Luna.
